Diverse Services Providing State-of-the-Art CareASTYM (Augmented Soft Tissue Mobilization) helps break down scar tissue. ASTYM has been extremely effective in the treatment of tendonitis. ASTYM incorporates flexibility, strengthening, and muscle re-education. This process allows the physical therapist to work effectively on a patient in a minimal number of sessions. However, in order for ASTYM to work, patients must take an active role in their rehabilitation process by maintaining flexibility at home.

People who benefit from ASTYM include those who have just had surgery and experience pain or loss of motion and function. Also those who suffer from injury, cumulative trauma disorders and chronic irritation/tendonitis may benefit from ASTYM.

Diagnosis that have responded to ASTYM:
  • Lateral Epicondylitis
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • DeQuervain's Tenosynovitis
  • Trigger Finger
  • Joint Contractures
  • IT Band Syndrome
  • Hip Pain
  • Patellar Tendonitis
  • Anterior Knee Pain
  • Shin Splints
  • Chronic Ankle Sprains
  • Plantar Fasiitis
  • Achilles Tendonitis

There are also many advantages of choosing ASTYM. ASTYM reduces the need for splints and braces. There is less need for surgery. ASTYM has achieved success where the conventional treatments have failed. ASTYM also incorporates Sportho's ideas of letting the patient contribute to their full recovery. It involves the patient while he/she is under careful supervision. The patient will also learn how to prevent future injury.

ASTYM works in two ways; first by breaking down fascial restrictions and then by introducing controlled microtrauma to the affected soft tissue structures. This microtrauma causes the stimulation of a local inflammatory response. This response then initiates resorption of inappropriate scar tissue and causes a wave of healing activities which then remodels and repairs the affected soft tissue. This allows full function to occur.
